The Solution to Treat Facial Veins and Vessels is Laser and Photo Rejuvenation (IPL)
The team of aesthetics experts at Secret 21 Skin Clinic has discovered that spider veins on the face are most effectively treated with IPL lasers. Lasers are medical devices which have changed and dramatically advanced the way that skin issues are treated.
Our lasers are unique light emitting devices which give off a single very specific wavelength of light-targeted to eliminate one issue or problem. Certain vascular lasers have been designed to just remove blood vessels, spider veins, and red marks–causing virtually no tissue damage or unwanted effects to any other elements of the surrounding skin. The laser beam targets the blood vessels, and simply seals them up.
After the facial vein treatments, the skin is mildly red and swollen for a brief period of a few hours. Some treated vessels look darker for a few days, then begin to fade and disappear. Generally, patients are able to return to work that day or the next day. The spider veins slowly resolve over 4 weeks. One to three sessions, spaced fours weeks apart, give most of our clients the best results.
IPL Laser Treatment, One of the Best Facial Vein Treatments For Facial Veins
Intense Pulsed Light, or photo rejuvenation, is a laser-type device that emits different wavelengths of light (not just one wavelength like a standard laser) and therefore can treat a more broad range of skin issues. The IPL device was created to treat combinations of skin issues, versus lasers treat just one skin target.
At Secret 21 Skin Clinic, our IPL can be used to treat facial redness and tiny blood vessels. While the lasers more effectively treat the larger visible thready blood vessels, the IPL reduces the diffuse background redness . After the IPL treatment, the skin is mildly red for a few hours; the treatment requires no time off from daily activities.
- Our IPL treatment can be used to treat the combination of thready spider veins and diffuse flushing and redness.
- Our IPL effectively treats diffuse facial redness and flushing.
- Our IPL also can lighten brown spots and is the logical choice if you have a combination of both diffuse red and brown discolorations on your face.

Facial Vein Treatment FAQs
How does the laser treatment compare with other methods?
Our laser solution is non-invasive and quick with no painful injections. With sclerotherapy, a small needle is used to inject each vessel with a sclerosing solution. Sclerotherapy treatments could take approximately 20-30 minutes and each vessel could require multiple painful injections. We have found that if a vein or veins have been previously treated with sclerotherapy, the vein will not respond to laser treatment.
What does treatment feel like?
Treatments begin with the larger veins first, proceeding along the entire length of the vessel. Although many patients report little or no discomfort, some may experience a mild stinging sensation only when the laser pulse is delivered.
How long do the results last?
Many of the vessels treated require only one or two treatments. Multiple treatments are usually required for optimum results. Long-term success varies from patient to patient, vessel to vessel, but optimal candidates can experience results that last for several years.
Is there any downtime?
Although we encourage you to resume normal activities almost immediately, we do ask that you refrain from vigorous activities for at least 24 hours. Avoid exercise for 2 to 3 days after the treatment. Please also avoid hot baths and hot tubs for at least the first 24 hours.
How many treatments will I need?
Each patient’s individual treatment needs are different. Treatment will depend on the number, size and location of the failing veins, as well as how fast you heal, and the level of cosmetic results you desire. After an initial consultation we can give you a rough estimate of the number of treatments you will need.
